On the Job Stress Soothers

Health care professionals, law enforcement personnel, teachers, mothers, CEOs, waitresses, grocery checkers...No matter your profession, work involves stress.

So how can you quiet your anxious mind before you lose control?

Breathe!
It generates heat to soften muscles, relax the body and help block out distractions.

  1. Place your hand on your stomach; take a deep breath through your nose and feel your stomach expand like a balloon.
  2. Exhales through your nose while pulling your stomach inward. This forcefully expels the air, making more room for the next breath.
  3. Repeat 15-20 times.

Clean up your surroundings.
Get rid of workspace annoyances that clutter your mind and agitate your stress levels. Purge and reorganize to make information more accessible and free up space.

Get up and move.
A quick lap around the block, a climb up and down the building's stairs or a stroll through halls are easy ways to remove yourself from the source of the stress. The movement also signals your body to release those much-needed neurotransmitters that naturally lift your mood.

Just say no.
It may just be the most powerful word in the English language: "No!" Try it. You'll be amazed by the relief.
