Beauty Ingredient Glossary

Hyaluronic Acid: Acts just like a sponge, holding 1,000 times its weight in water in ever molecule. This results in making your skin firmer, smoother, and dewier.

Glycerin: A colorless, odorless sugar-alcohol compound that is a by-product of making soap from vegetable fats. Glycerin has many skin benefits such as moisturizing, softening, rebalancing sebum, and toning.

Lactic Acid: This alpha-hydroxy acid (AHA) has regenerative properties to help treat hyperpigmentation and smooth out skin by gently dissolving dead skin cells.

Ceramides: These are lipid molecules that are naturally occurring in the outer layers of skin. In skincare, they replenish the skin’s natural barrier to help restore moisture and protect against harmful environmental elements.

Lavandula Angustifolia (Lavender) Oil: Calms red, irritated skin and has anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial properties.

Salix Nigra (Willow) Bark Extract: Has natural anti-inflammatory properties that reduce redness and puffiness around blemishes. Also, helps remove dead skin cells to open pores and is a temporary pain reliever.

Titanium Dioxide: An alternative ingredient to provide protection from the ultraviolet spectrum B (UVB) rays that cause sunburn. Does not pose the hormone-disruptive risks posed by chemical sunscreen agents like oxybenzone.

Mica: A silicate mineral that is ground into a powder and used to give skincare and cosmetics a shimmer or sparkle. Often referred to as “natures glitter.”

Xanthan Gum: This is a sugar based polymer used as a thickening and stabilizing agent that gives skincare products an optimum texture.

laminaria digitata (algae) extract: Algae is a natural ingredient that has numerous skincare benefits including hydration, antioxidants that protect your skin from free radicals, essential amino acids, and a variety of vitamins including vitamins A, B, C, and E.

Oenothera Biennis (Evening Primrose) Oil: Evening Primrose Seed Oil has been used for centuries to heal wounds due to its anti-inflammatory and bacteria reduction properties. It can calm sensitive and irritated skin and is high in antioxidants and gamma linoleic acid (an Omega 6 fatty acid that is essential to maintaining health cells and body functions).
