FRENCH MARKET QUILT

The technique of trapunto quilting, in which select areas are generously hand padded to provide visual dimension, may date as far back as the fourteenth century. Our inspiration piece was found in an open air brocante in Saint-Rémy and has been lovingly reproduced in complete detail. The delicate field flowers design features thousands of hand guided stitches surrounded by rustic hand quilting. The soft cotton and linen blend is woven in the traditional "coton provençal" manner, with an almost open weave and natural inclusions of flax for a vintage look and feel. The fill is lighter weight cotton for softness and drape. The quilt finishes with a classic scallop.
